“Voices of Hope” (VOH 001).
Description: This book is a collection of therapeutic healing stories.
These stories by therapists who work in the field of trauma and abuse draw on stories they use in therapy with hurting children. Several stories are by a retired teacher with a soft spot for vulnerable children. A number of inspiring South Africans also share stories of overcoming trauma, growth and healing. The book has been illustrated by children
The use of children's stories and books as an aid to emotional support and healing is well established in the practice of psychology and play therapy. The book is filled with illustrated stories with powerful messages that can be used as an effective tool in bringing about behavioural change as well as emotional healing in children.
Although this book has specifically been compiled for use in the therapeutic work with children who have been affected by trauma and abuse, the stories can also be used to read to any child with the aim of teaching them life skills concerning different challenging situations. Each story contains information regarding the age of the child for which the story is most appropriate and the key life lesson contained in the story. This book of healing stories for Africa's children draws on therapeutic stories written by professional helpers and stories told by inspiring Africans.
